if you’re interested a cool book about the history of colors is The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair. i read it back in 2021 and it’s really fascinating! kind of on a similar note i’ve been meaning to get around to The Fabric of Civilization by Virginia Postrel for years, which is a book about the history of textiles (so somewhat related)

Lapis was another example. Egyptian blue was the first known synthetic pigment. The history of colors is very interesting.
