current activity: tidying up, decorating, and cleaning the downstairs part of our apartment
goal for today: vacuum downstairs!! the situation is dire
i’m looking forward to… a clean and organized (half an) apartment
i’m feeling grateful for… my friends’ music! i’ve been listening to the stuff the people in my life have made a lot recently.. i have really talented friends
notes: i think i’m entering a manic episode, which is strange.. the depressive episodes tend to be longer. i’m directing the energy it’s giving me into getting things done, which helps keep the anxiety aspect from flaring up too badly and also means i finally started tackling some of the things i’ve been putting off. i haven’t done homework for a day or two but i’ve made sure to stay busy so i don’t lose the momentum i’ve been running on since the last week of the spring semester. i’m reading a lot lately, which is nice!

goal for today: get my financial aid stuff sorted out
i’m looking forward to… the library! i’ve been rereading the haunting of hill house on my phone and i’m excited to have a paper copy instead
i’m feeling grateful for… the library… you mean these books are free as long as i give them back? wow!
notes: i worked almost a full 20 hours the past two weeks (which is the most i can work in a two-week period) so i finally finally FINALLY will have an income! i think i get paid monday :) i’ve finally kind of taken charge of our finances and even though we’re broke it’s much less stressful when i feel informed and like i’m making progress toward a better situation. i’ve been really productive lately and i’m proud of myself for it!

current activity: doing research for fun! learning about the geology of southeastern france
goal for today: make it to my event ✓
i’m looking forward to… the second day of the event tomorrow!
i’m feeling grateful for… the academic connections i’m making now that i’ve transferred schools.. almost a year ago now!
notes: today’s talks were super interesting and i now know about two new species that i can’t say anything else about because the paper hasn’t been released… it was so secretive, no pictures or recordings and you can’t post any details about it until it’s published. i’ll definitely share the paper here when it’s out! the first talk tomorrow is about the end-Permian extinction and i don’t want to miss it but it means i have to leave super early!!! going to bed soon so i’m well rested for the morning

notes: tomorrow i’m going to a big event with a ton of talks about the Permian (and some adjacent periods of time). today my schedule was all off because i woke up late and it ended up really messing with my whole day, but i’m taking it as a lesson learned and hoping to wake up early enough tomorrow not to miss any of the talks! it’s about an hour drive so i have to leave around 8 T_T

i’m looking forward to… a relaxing night :)
i’m feeling grateful for… BEING PROPERLY MEDICATED FOR ADHD
notes: i came downstairs to journal and accidentally did all the dishes. being medicated is so crazy. i also achieved my one Big Thing for today, which was drawing this hellishly complicated coral for my cnidarian lab. i was hoping to finish the lab but i needed to switch gears, i’ve been doing labs for hours every day all week! i spent today working around the house and also just taking some time off instead. i’m feeling proud because the dishes have been a looming task that i never QUITE caught up with, and now i’m finally caught up on both dishes and laundry (the two big sisyphean household chores) and can just do a little at a time instead of having to dedicate hours or days to catching up. i’m feeling good! work is going well… i’m organizing the geoscience department’s storage room because the movers just dumped boxes wherever and i found a little valentine’s day bear that i got to take home with me. on top of that i was moving around the art that will eventually get hung back up around the building and there was this beautiful illustration of a nautilus that apparently no one wanted? huge haul today

goal for today: make progress on my cnidarian lab
i’m looking forward to… watching a short documentary about incapacitants later
i’m feeling grateful for… my job! started working again today
notes: started work today! i technically have had this job since last august but got too busy to work during the school year, so i went through the rehiring process last week and finally started today. i’m organizing boxes and filing old records in a REALLY dusty room but it’s independent and i’m by myself so it’s really the ideal job for me. i’m going to be working 10 hrs a week, which is totally manageable and leaves me plenty of time to work on my paleo labs. i’m also trying to wake up earlier and work in the mornings to get my sleep schedule on track for the fall semester (i have an 8:30am class!)

i’m feeling grateful for… alison :) they did a lot of housework today and i’m very appreciative of the help
notes: i managed to get sick within 24 hours and i’m really struggling to work through it; i did the easy things on my to do list but the brain fog/pain combination is not making getting the important stuff done easy. i want to get better at working even while uncomfortable because i have chronic pain and a compromised immune system, so having to drop everything to feel physically unwell so often ends up being pretty detrimental. in happier news, the optimistic, ambitious confidence has been lingering even on bad days… i think i really am getting better after 4-5 years of struggling to survive

i’m looking forward to… hanging out with my girlfriend later!
i’m feeling grateful for… my mom :) i’m at my parents’ house and we’ve been chatting while i work
notes: i finally, finally, finally managed to get medicated for my ADHD. after years and years of debilitating executive dysfunction it’s like a dog has lifted and it suddenly doesn’t feel impossible to get anything done… although i could be productive before, on adderall it doesn’t feel like running really fast into a brick wall over and over. i’m finishing up my invertebrate paleo course over the summer (just the lab section) and i can finally sit down and actually focus on what i’m doing.

i’m feeling grateful for… my endocrinologist :) she’s nice
notes: big day of tasks for me! i also took one of the most serious naps of my life and now i can’t sleep so i’m playing around in my spotify library and finding songs to listen to (plus some new releases!). i’m discovering that since winter break i’ve gotten a lot better at not falling apart just because i’m alone, which i think is a lot healthier than needing alison around to feel okay

notes: i’m dealing with crazy mood regulation issues for like five separate reasons so all things considered i’m doing really well. spring break is next week so i’ll have time to catch up, so i’m focusing on keeping my needs balanced with chores and schoolwork

i’m feeling grateful for… kind professors, once again
notes: i think i’m finally not sick anymore thank GOD. i’m immunocompromised so one little cold knocked me out for a week and a half and dialed my chronic fatigue up to a 10. i’m behind on school now but my professors are being very chill about it so i think i can catch up with some hard work (and spring break around the corner!)

i’m feeling grateful for… my college :) i’m so much happier after transferring
notes: i woke up TWICE today thinking it was monday and i needed to get ready for class. the first time i woke up it was 9:15 and i checked my watch and went oh no! i only have thirty minutes to get ready! but i’m so sleepy… wait! my class isn’t until 11, i still have time to rest! …why didn’t my alarms go off? IT’S SUNDAY!! I CAN SLEEP AS LONG AS I WANT! then another hour of sleep and i woke up again at 10:20 and went oh no, i only have 25 minutes, i really need to get up.. but i’m so sleepy… but what if i miss class… wait, why didn’t my alarms go off? OH! it’s sunday, i can sleep as long as i want! why am i getting crazy déjà vu right now?
