my basil flowers so aggressively…
i have a theory based solely on experience (as in, it may be totally wrong) that plants grow in a roots → shoots → blossoms manner. i was talking to someone about this who’s having trouble getting their plants to bloom, and i mentioned my idea that a smaller pot means the plant “maxxes out” its root space and shoot space and focuses on reproducing. that seems to be the case with my plants; i give my succulents a lot of room and they grow extremely quickly (for a succulent) but never flower; i have a pothos shoot without significant roots and it’s not sending out a new shoot yet; and my basil flowers all the time, but it’s outgrowing its pot! it’s just a theory, but it seems to hold at least with my plants
